I remind you that the Association comes from a long tradition where nothing is as deeply cherished and honored as an honest difference of opinion honestly held. Usenix is intended as a place where one can achieve what Ambrose Bierce described as "A meeting of the minds without a butting of the heads" for even the most deeply held opinions. Therefore, I have every faith that our attendees will honor this tradition by carefully separating the individual from the opinion or position so as to pursue a vigorous debate without dishonoring the discussants. Let the strength of your convictions be evidenced by the quality of your argument and the illumination engendered by the discourse, and not by the shrillness of your expression. Thank your for your time and attention to this matter, -Mike O'Dell Vice President, Usenix Association
