This clearly indicates that it is not a UART or kernel problem in your
case.

Before you do that, type `stty -a < /dev/com2'.  See whether `cs7' or
`cs8' is listed.  It should be `cs8'; if not, try changing it yourself,
with `stty cs8 < /dev/com2'.

Also, try sz's `-e' option.
