What USL's legal department said is standard. BSDI specifies that there code does not contain any of USL`s code and thus a UNIX license from AT&T/USL is not needed. Most companies that are working on a UNIX product do not make that claim. If USL's claim is true then they would like said people from working on the product. The standard philosophy says if I duplicate an existing products functionality, I hope my developers have no PRIVATE knowledge of the other product. They should develop it in a "clean area".
