I've used ide_conf to check settings, and they now agree (I low level formatted my drive back to the drive settings and updated my CMOS values appropriately). I tried re-installing 386bsd from the Tiny 386BSD disk, and, whether I used the entire drive, or only the 41 meg partition, I still cannot get *anything* other than a brief flash of the keyboard lights before the system seems to decide that it needs something from the floppy drive, and hangs itself (i.e. the drives stop making any noise, the warm-boot and BIOS-boot key sequences don't work, and the light over the A: drive is on steady, but no reaction if I insert a disk at any point). Full reset (i.e. big button -- glad this new machine has one) is required, with the TinyBSD disk inserted (or anything with an fdisk or something) so I can set my DOS partition active again. Booting from the floppy works fine for that basic level (20-30 secs until prompt), and shutdown -todos works fine, but warm boot from DOS (either after changing the active partition, or straight to a BSD floppy) hangs. Once again, I have a Tiny 386BSD disk (and fixit.fs) downloaded in November, v0.1 (7/92). My machine is: i486/40 ISA, 8MB RAM, 44.7 MB Seagate ST-157A IDE (translation is set to OFF in CMOS) Microid Research BIOS (MR BIOS) Running disklabel from the fixit.fs disk: #disklabel wd0 # /dev/rwd0d type: ESDI <-- it's an IDE. Did install do this wrong? disk: ESDI/IDE label: T157A flags: bytes/sector: 512 sectors/track: 26 tracks/cylinder: 6 sectors/cylinder: 156 cylinders: 560 rpm: 3600 interleave: 1 trackskew: 0 cylinderskew: 0 headswitch: 0 <-- should this have a non-zero value? track-to-track seek: 0 <-- should this have a non-zero value? drivedata: 0 3 partitions # size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg] a: 73476 1872 4.2BSD 1024 8192 16 # (Cyl. 12-482) b: 10000 75456 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 483*-547*) what do the *'s mean? -----^----^ c: 84084 1872 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 12-550) # Any and all help will be appreciated!
