Are you sure the quote you attribute to him is indeed >one of his? I very much doubt it. He either said it or was quoting someone else. This was shortly after he went to Bell from Caltech. The person who took over Pike's duties kept in contact with Pike (and eventually went to Bell too), and told Pike about the outbreak of editor writing that occurred. The above quote is what he told us that Pike had said in response to our editor writing. --Tim Smith
