He either said it or was quoting someone else.  This was shortly after he went
to Bell from Caltech.  The person who took over Pike's duties kept in
contact with Pike (and eventually went to Bell too), and told Pike about
the outbreak of editor writing that occurred.   The above quote is what he
told us that Pike had said in response to our editor writing.
