Lines: 41 I keep having programs die with signal 10 and 11 errors. The two main victims are the X server and the compiler. This is really annoying since the kernel is getting quite stable now but I can't leave long compiles while I go and do something else because it could stop at any moment and every few hours or so my X server will die. Someone else reported a while back that their X server was dying from sig 10 and 11 errors as well. One of the XFree86 people suggested possibly a corrupted xerver or a server bug. I've checked my server isn't corrupted and it's ok but I suspect that there's a general bug somewhere that's affecting large memory users since cc suffers from the same problem (and also make sometimes). Once a program has died in this fashion it won't restart until I've rebooted the machine, then it will work fine for a while before dying again. This suggests that it's not a problem with any particular program since they work fine for a while and the fact that they won't restart suggests that the problem lies elsewhere. I've tried logging out and back in again, just in case it was a dodgy shell causing problems, but that doesn't work. I have to do a reboot. Since it's sig 10 and 11 that's always reported then my first thought was that there's something going wrong with the use of memory by user processes. Is this likeley. Does anyone have any idea what's happening?? Since I'm sure there's a bug lurking here somewhere I'd appreciate any info that would help track it down. Also, I remember someone mentioning why the compiler sometimes dies with sig 6 errors. I can't find that post could can someone tell me again please.
