The system is configured as follows: 1. WD7000 SCSI controller a. IRQ: 15 b. DMA channel: 6 c. I/O address: 0x350 d. BIOS ROM address: 0xCE000 e. connected to: 3.5 1.44 MB floppy drive HP 600 MB SCSI hard drive (SCSI ID 0) 120 MB Wangtek tape drive (SCSI ID 3) 2. Diamond SpeedSTAR SVGA controller a. IRQ: 2 b. Normal Bus Timing 3. StarLAN 10 PC NAU V4.20 Ethernet card: a. IRQ: 5 b. I/O address: 360-367 c. RAM address: D000 d. RAM size: 16K At first I saw the problem with the CMOS using the standard dist.fs (flashing screen, etc.), and downloaded the patch for that problem from agate.berkeley.edu (dist.starlan.cmos.fs). While booting, the screen appears as follows: Primary Boot-Strap Warning: Base memory 639K, assuming 640K 386BSD Release 0.1 by William and Lynne Jolitz. [0.1.24 07/14/92 19:07] Copyright (c) 1989,1990,1991,1992 William F. Jolitz. All rights reserved. Based in part on work by the 386BSD User Community and the BSD Networking Software, Release 2 by UCB EECS Department. pc0<color> at 0x60 irq 1 on isa com1 at 0x3f8 irq 4 on isa com2 at 0x2f8 irq 3 on isa wd0 at 0x1f0 irq 14 on isa fd0 drives 0: 1.44M at 0x3f0 irq 6 drq 2 on isa ie0 <StarLAN 10 R2> ethernet address 08:00:6a:81:a6:b3 at 0x360 irq 3 on isa npx0 at 0xf0 irq13 on isa changing root device to fd0a At this point, the floppy drive drive light goes off and the system hangs (rebootable by CTL-ALT-DEL). I have tried the new patch-kist dist.fs, but wd0 is not recognized and the system still hangs at the same point. I have tried to boot without the ethernet card, fiddle with interrupts, etc. but the system always hangs at the same point during boot up. MS-DOS DOS 5.0, Linux, and AT&T System V/386 Release 4 all run fine and do not complain about any of the above configuration. In addition, all equipment passes manufacturer's diagnostics. I know I am creating the image file correctly because I have tested the patch-kit dist.fs on a Compaq 386S and no problems occur. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
