Howdy! Last night, when I should have been slaving away over various
assignments, I decided to trash my hard disk (after backing it up) and
install 386bsd 0.1.

So, here's the deal:

Trashed the old partition scheme, and set up a 110MB partition for DOS. This
booted fine. (made this partition with 'fdisk' (sans /mbr))

I read the INSTALL.NOTES from beginning to end, and then booted with the
Tiny 386BSD disk, and typed install. It asked me if I wanted to just
use the remaining 211MB left on my disk, so I said yes, and told it to use
the 211MB. It then did some darn quick formatting, and started copying
files over from the installation diskette, and then told me to remove the
floppy and hit enter to reboot.

I did this, and then the computer rebooted. However, instead of booting up
the new 386BSD OS, garbage came on my screen---A myriad of colors and blinking
characters, with no sign of UNIX in sight. I waited a while, and they changed.
(after like 5 minutes). They changed once more, and then the machine just
sat there blinking.

Trying again produced no better luck.

However, I then went and told it to use the whole disk, and everything worked
great.

This is better, but I REALLY need to be running DOS/Windows/NT etc on the
other 110MB Partition for work purposes.

Could somebody please suggest some sort of attack plan so that I might be able
to get the OS working on the 211MB partition...? I am at a complete loss, and
would really like to be running this OS on my disk.

The machine is a pretty straightward 486 with UMC Chipset (yes, it's crap),
a 340MB Drive, an 80MB Drive, 16MB 60ns RAM, mach32 graphics card, and
two COM ports (one with fifo buffer (which the OS detects (GREAT JOB!!))).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Toodlepip!
Marc 'em.
