Try this: startx >& junkfile then after it aborts, take a look at junkfile. If yours is doing what mine did, it will report failed to set default font path '...' Then it's not finding the /usr/X386/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo directory. I just went and edited it ( Speedo dir ONLY) out of the Xconfig file. Leave the rest of the font path line alone. After that, I fought the mouse for about 2 hours then PRESTO, it worked! *maniacal laughter* That's NOT counting the 2 WEEKS just trying to get X itself going!
