Message-ID: <1993Feb4.193457.4826@ucsu.Colorado.EDU> Date: 4 Feb 93 19:34:57 GMT Sender: news@ucsu.Colorado.EDU (USENET News System) Organization: University of Colorado, Boulder Lines: 22 Nntp-Posting-Host: rintintin.colorado.edu I am mildly contemplating trying to write a QIC-80 driver for 386bsd. This would be my first attempt at a device driver, so I am clueless about any issues that may be important. Several questions: 1. Is anybody working on one now? If so, that would be nice to know. 2. Is it going to be part of 386BSD 0.2? Then I won't bother. 3. If 1&2 are no, then why not? Is there some unsurmountable difficulty, or is it a boring problem, or is it just that nobody has done it before? 4. Where can I get information on how the thing works and how to program it? (BTW - I live in Boulder, CO. Colorado Memory Systems is around here somewhere. Do you guys think that they would cooperate? I don't think so, because they have their own unix driver that they are trying to sell. It might be worth a shot, though.) I would appreciate advice from anybody who knows anything relavent. thanks, john galbraith galbrait@rintintin.colorado.edu
