He couldn't get it to work as he wanted. In /sys/kern/tty.c, function ttyecho checks if a character should be echoed or not. A test for newline seem to be upside down, replacing c == '\n' with c != '\n' fixed the problem. (I always hated those multiline if(...)'s.)
