since this is a harmless patch, i'll fold it in.

also, note that not all 16x52 devices have similar problems;
the machine i've got at home has it's serial/parallel ports handled
by a 16452 (i think it's an NS16452), which is a 2 serial port
plus one parallel port creature, and it works just fine...
