honest opinion: i don't think linux is worth bothering with,
because is _uses_ the GPL.

basically, the GPL discriminates against "large" researchers.

that, and another reason i don't like the GPL:
software under it isn't _free_ it's rather restricted;
the GPL in actuality is one of the most restrictive licenses
i've seen.  much rather go with the "berkeley" license...
