I am having some problems creating a working kernel for an old Compaq
DeskPro (386/20) I have recently inherited at work.

The original installation to the hard disk was from one of the
bootables at wotan.compaq.com. I have installed the 2.1 patches. I
can compile kernels that boot fine on other systems but the crusty old
Compaq itself freezes up just before any of the probe messages appear.
The optional keyboard delay hack didn't fix the problem. I have
omitted all (i.e. floppy, com ports, ...) but essential drivers.

Right now I don't have any ideas so I will start hacking away at the
kernel. If anybody else has experienced similar problems, I'd sure
appreciate some input.

Can anybody describe what was done to create the bootable kernels at
wotan?
