Under Minix I use an atof that is based on Earl Chew's stdio (estdio).
estdio has about the same quality and capabilities as 386BSD stdio but
has more accurate floating point support.  The copyright is closer to
BSD's than to the GPL.

I've been hoping that BSD-4 would have a good atof/strtod.
