looking at this further, this generates lines like:
386BSD Release 0.1 by William and Lynne Jolitz. [0.1.5 (FUZZFACE) 02/23/93 02:41]
rather than the old:
386BSD Release 0.1 by William and Lynne Jolitz. [0.1.4 02/23/93 02:41]
in the new version, the extra space after the kernel name is more of
an eyesore than it was... 8-)
the fix is obvious...
