The reason why I am asking this is because there is a thread in comp.os.linux where people are discussing the possibility of buying the source and full distribution rights for Motif, porting it to Linux and then distributing the binaries. This would be done, I think, through a University who could purchase the full Motif license. The costs involved are: Sources and full distribution rights: $15,000 (?) For each binary copy distributed: $50 In the thread, they estimated that if 100 people were interested in pooling resources, they would have to pay $150 to cover the binary distribution and other related costs. Is there any interest in using Motif in 386BSD? If there is interest, the more people the better, lowering costs and creating a bigger pool of users/testers of Motif on 386BSD and Linux. Of course there is the question where using Motif is appropriate or goes against the spirit of freely available software. However, it is my opinion that some developers might want to have the Motif interface for their applications. Also, there is concern that supporting this would take away support from FSF. What are your opinions?
