I had some difficulties bringing up 386BSD on a Compaq Deskpro 386/20 with an ESDI disk. This is an older model that hasn't been manufactured for several years. All of the newer Compaq models I have tried exhibited none of these problems. I applied the patches suggested in the 0.2.1 patchkit. The machine first got hung up around when it was attaching the keyboard. Backing out patch 83, as suggested by Nate gets around this. The machine then hung around where it should have issued the "switching root to..." message. Backing out patches 72, 38, and 21 gets around this problem. Parts of these patches are important to the integrity of the Winchester disk driver so I am not keen on leaving them out. I'll try to figure out what part is causing the problem. In the mean time, at least this gets a bootable kernel. -- unx hs its wk Jim McKim / Internet: mckim@lerc.nasa.gov pts bt obts cmd Phone: +1 216 891 2283 / Packet: kb8dcr@kb8dcr.ampr.org nms isnt 1 of thm
