The "codrv" binary kernel has the kernel support already in, so it works, if you have an US keyboard and do not want to modify the keyboard map. Otherwise you need a utility, named 'keymap' and some configuration files, which are available in the 'keycap-0.1.1.tar.Z' file. Of course you have to compile and install keymap properly according the instructions to use all the features codrv has in addition, but this shouldn't be a problem. You do not need to recompile the kernel; I think Rich has prepared a state-of-the-art kernel with the latest patchkit fixes available to the release date; and I guess he will update the kernel binaries if necessary. Addition: be sure to have the Xserver XFree86-1.2-codrv-fix1.tar.Z, which is the actual version.
