I thought the system was hanging on the 'updating disks',  but I found that
I wasn't waiting long enough.  If I left it alone, it eventually came back,
more often than not, with a panic (don't recall if it was the same one you
note).

I do have to repeat, though, I've not had problems for some time (3 months?).
