Now that the cat's out of the bag, I suppose I can let people at them. I need to anyways, since I'm leaving for 5 days tomorrow. (I know, not good if people have problems, but limited testing has shown positive results) I have made a new set of bootables that appear to fix most problems people are having with the keyboard, etc..... These bootable work on these types of Hard Disk controllers 1) Any WD type controllers - IDE/MFM/RLL/ESDI 2) Adaptec 154x - A, B, and C(?) - I fixed the bootblocks so you can install from these disks on the AHA1542A now 3) Adaptec 174x - In enhanced mode only. In standard mode, the current bootblocks will not work, but they work in enhanced mode fine. I removed the patch00083 'fix' from the patchkit, so these should boot on most machines. The only problems that people should see are if your machine boots up and mounts the floppy disk as the root file-system but the keyboard locks up, you will need to bounce on a key while booting up to let the pccons driver have some keyboard input (I use num-lock, so you can see the results on the LED's). Most machines should have no problems with these bootables, and if you do there is little that I can do about it "RIGHT NOW" (maybe at a later date) I would like a couple more folks to try them out, before I make ask Chris to replace my old versions on agate, so for the time being, they are available at: ftp.coe.montana.edu:/tmp/dist.fs.pk-0.2.1+ ftp.coe.montana.edu:/tmp/fixit.fs.pk-0.2.1+ Unfortunately, due to the size of these I could not get everything to fit on a 5.25" disk. However, because I now have more room on the floppy, the kernels are no longer stripped. Also, I added julian's fdisk utility on the fixit floppy, for people who want to do real partitioning with multiple Operating Systems. The disks were created using the original bootables, adding the new bootblock fixes, and then putting on brand new kernels compiled from 0.1 + patchkit-0.2.1 + Jordan's BETA patches (Julian's SCSI drivers) with patch00083 from the patchkit removed. I have 2 drives configured for both SCSI and WD, and two tape drives. (No CD ROM support for now, but I will probably add that to the bootables I put on agate, I just forgot to add it, and I need to get packing for my trip) All of the driver's that came on the original bootables are in, including all of the ethernet drivers. Any questions, send them to me! Like I said above, I'll be leaving tomorrow for 5 days, but if it's an emergency I'll be checking my mail in the morning before I leave. For those of you who want the most up-to-date kernel, these have been compiled with X support, all the adaptec SCSI drivers, and tape support in them. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to stick the other two SCSI adapters support into the bootable, with the current generation of the SCSI drivers. If you need Ultrastor or Bustek support for now, you're on your own. Find someone who runs 386BSD and have them compile you a kernel with that support and replace the kernel on the bootables with it. I would be able to generate those kernels, but you can't install them on the floppies until you get a system running off the hardrive, so you're kind stuck anyway. Thanks folks, and please try these out before I make them official. I'd rather not find out a week after I release them that they cause all sorts of grief on machines that worked fine before.
