Also installed is the logictech bus mouse driver, and syscons-0.2 consoles. The setup is a 486/33Dx w/ 8 megs of memory and a 100 meg ide drive. I have all the sources nfs mounted as there is a serious lack of local disk space ;) My machine crashes fairly consistantly on many things. Bad things include: o Compiling over the network. o Compiling over locally while running X. o Exiting X (sometimes). o Running start_xmd from the login prompt, and then logging in. (from the xprompter). o Running XV (on another machine). o Running X w/ a large window and switching to another virtual console. I suspect that most of my problems are memory related, but it seems that adding extra swap space is quite difficult. (not that I have ever seen an decent description of how to actually ADD more swap space). Are these problems well known? I mean, I don't actually get any panic message, the screen just goes blank, and the machine reboots. So questions are: 1. Are these well known problems, and if so what can I do (if anything) to fix them? 2. How to add more swap space. I have two ide drives in my machine. #1 has a 5 meg dos boot partition, and 95 meg devoted to unix. The other disk is all dos. How much swap is advisable? 3. What type of terminal is syscons? pc3 seems to work... but some of the things look really gross (for instance, inserting/deleting a line in vi). BTW, where is the entry for pc3? Surely the entry in the /etc/termcap file is not correct... My entry doesn't even contain cm. 4. How can I add more pty's to my system?
