I had the same problem with one of our 486 machines. The solution is very simple, although probably not the *RIGHT* answer. My problem was my keyboard BIOS. I replaced it with a newer version, and everything worked fine. Trust me, I understand the frustration this can cause, try contacting the manufacturer of your motherboard and ask them for a keyboard BIOS update, I got mine free of charge.
