I deleted a bunch of your message.  Sorry 'bout that.

During boot-up (specifically during the fsck), hit Control-c.

This will interrupt the boot and put you into single user mode as root.

vipw the system, and clear out one of your passwords.

(Preferably root).  

'sync; sync; sync; halt'  -- Force of habit.  I KNOW this does what I want.

Press the any key to reboot.

Log on as the user whose password you blanked.

Make SURE.  Absolutely SURE, that you have built crypt.o into your library.
The Makefile has probably been modified to put crypt_dummy back in.  It was
after I got done with my install.  Once you have verified that the crypt.o
is in the right place, relink all of the programs that use crypt (I'm sorry,
I just don't remember which ones they were).  I reran buildworld.sh and just
started over.  It only took about nine hours the second time :-)...
