In this case there are two sections of the communication link to consider. 1 the rs232 link between your terminal and your localhost, and 2, the networklink between your localhost and the remotehost. The settings you alter with stty outside of telnet are only the settings between your terminal and the localhost. Inside telnet most stty settings are meaningless. On some systems you may even alter the baudrate, and still see all characters! So first you should check your settings outside telnet and see if they are good for 8bit transmission. Then i suspect you won't have any problems inside telnet al well.
