Here is a brief summary:

I had no replies about any of the 1540[abc] controllers, or the 1542a. The
1542b is the "standard" supported by 386bsd. I had a reply indicating
problems using the new 1542c controller (see new thread "Anyone using
the Adaptec 1542c with 386bsd" for details).
