A possible solution is to move the modem to com2. However, many pcs now come with a multifunction board which handles 2 hard disks, 2 floopies AND a mouse at com1 PLUS a serial port at com2. This prevents moving the modem to com2 physically. My system has one of such boards. The other way to cure it is to rebuild the kernel according to my configuration. Unfortunately, I can't do this due to lacking of disk space. (May have other difficults since I never hack a kernel.) Here comes the question: has anyone come over the same problem and had a rebuilt kernel dealing with com4 AND supporting X? Any input is appreciated. Sorry if this is an FAQ. If not, I bet many of us will like to see it somewhere in the FAQ. -- Edmond B. Xiao Play low from both hands! School of Comp. Sci.
