I personally have ported many large packages: tk/tcl_nm/interviews/freeWAIS/ isode-8.0 snmp and several 3D packages. Most of us I get the feeling that we port whatever popular package we like and we just keep on using 386bsd and our packages. If you are wondering about a popular package whether it has been ported or not, first try archie and the post asking to see if anyone has ported the package :-) Eureka! I found a database of all the README files for all ftp sites, so off I go to explore the internet using freeWAIS...
