Message-ID: <1993Apr15.064824.29962@latcs1.lat.oz.au> From: wongm@latcs1.lat.oz.au (M.C. These are the error I got : # tip host link down # kermit kermit > set line /dev/com1 (just hang there) When I use tip, I set ownership of /dev/com1 to uucp, and when I run kermit I set it to root. Can anyone kindly give me some help on this, as I am pretty new to 386BSD and this sort of admin. task. How about the permssion for the device, does it have to be specific in both different cases ? Also, I have got a problem about using COM3 and COM4. If I am not going to share IRQ3 (COM2, COM4) and IRQ4 (COM1, COM3) , but say use IRQ2 for COM3, IRQ5 for COM4, do I have to set those IRQ at the I/O card jumper? As I am new to all this stuff, I wonder if anyone can explain a bit ? How about creating the device entry for COM3 and COM4, what are the prefered major/minor devices numbers, permission, ownership of those devices, and the correct commands to do that ? Currently, I have add entries of COM3 and COM4 and their IRQ in my config file, but how would I make 386BSD know that the IRQ2 and IRQ5 are associated with that 2 devices ? How if I am going to use that 2 devices in DOS as well, do I have to arrange special setting for DOS to recognize them on IRQ2 and IRQ5? Or does DOS poll them and recognized them automatically ? Finally, I would appreciate if someone can shed some light or direct me to particular group/persons to enquire about the problem of starting X on 386BSD as I posted a few days ago : > Hi, > I just installed the XFree86-1.2 on my 386bsd.
