Looks like news is working locally. I can post and read, locally. I had never rebuilt after the 0.2.2 patch of 386bsd, so I'm trying that now, before I try to test uucp. I got a cnews patch from Mike Squires. Thanks, Mike! After applying that, and using bash instead of sh, I only had to fix a couple other things. 1. I had to make an executable "exit 0" file for "setnewsids". It didn't exist. (I know it should do something more, but I don't give a damn about permissions at this point.) 2. I had to change a case statement in "doexplode" to an if statement (bash bug, I guess). Then, "newsrun" still did not work until I tried to debug it. I set debug to YES in fileart.c, recompiled with doit.bin, had to repeat #2 because doit.bin installed over my modified doexplode, and it worked. I didn't have to debug anything. ??? Back to 386bsd... My build after 0.2.2 just reboots somewhere along the way before installing anything, so I have my work cut out installing after the patch. Why couldn't the patch just be a binary patch so I wouldn't even need source? The uucp config files look very foreign to me, so I have my work cut out getting uucp to work. Then I expect to have the com problems that I had when I tried to download 386bsd with "rz" (but gave up). Silo overflow errors, you know. I wish I had gone linux, but it's too late to turn back.
