Hello. I don't know if I'm posting these questions to the right group,
so please excuse me if I'm not.

I am helping a friend put together a Novell network and at the same time
connect to the internet. Unfortunately, my friend is in Prague, where the
only affordable internet connection (that I know of) is an e-mail only
connection using uucp protocol. The internet administrator in Prague says
an MSDOS machine running uucp software (e.g. Waffle) is no good because we
need to poll their machine for e-mail. I assume this needs to be a background
task on a Unix machine.

My questions are:

What is a practical IBM clone to run Unix? Is a 386 machine enough?

What is a good Unix for PC-clones?

Is anything special needed to drive a modem (14.4 kbd v.32 v.42)?

Can the Unix machine save files on to a Netware server if they are connected
by ethernet?

Can Dos applications be run on the Unix machine? Can these applications
use the Netware server drive?

Can a remote user call up the Unix machine and deposit a file onto its hard
drive with no operator on the Unix machine present? How about onto the
Netware server?

Can the Unix machine be used as a fax/modem server by the Netware stations?

If the answers to any of these questions is yes, with x hardware and/or y
software, please let me know what those are.

Responses by e-mail would be greatly appreciated.
