I bought an Adaptec 1742c (it uses a setup similar to the BIOS
setup to set various features for the adapter), and it couldn't
manage to reliably talk to my toshiba 1.2g model 538 disk drive.

So I took the combo back to the store and they also couldn't get
it to work :-)

Under 386bsd, I had no problems in seen my two IDE drives and my
scsi 1.2gb disk drive. However, under DOS the only way that I
managed to get to see the scsi drive was if I specified on my bios
setup no disk drives installed :-)

Asked the techie over at the store, to try out the 1742b and voila
all the problems disappear at least under DOS.
