386bsd works pretty well. The Patchkit offers us a variety of proofed
patches. THe new SCSI drivers are ok. X11 seems to run well.
What more is necessary. OK shared libraries .....

Linux is written from scratch. I cannot agree with the statements
that LInux is now probably better and so on.
OK more traffic in the newsgroups, but is it really stable,
and does the networking stuff so well as in 386bsd.
I don't think so !

What worries me the most is that there are people vom Berkeley
who think that the net needs a new bsd line called NetBSD.

I think this splits the 386 BSD Fans into peaces and peaces.

Perhaps you should better stay with 386BSD 0.1
put your experiences and knowledges into it like you did.
And bring us your new stuff in a form of a new patchkit.

I think its better then to make new versions. You make me and
other unshure what to do/install next !

|I agree. The development of Linux is moving at light speed compared to the
|developement of 386BSD/NetBSD. From the lack of traffic in the 386bsd group,
|it would appear that 386bsd/NetBSD is losing, or at least not gaining any
|new users.

What about making a better Installation Floppy for 386BSD 0.1 ?
	Configurable Partitions
	Configurable Swap Space
	Configurable File Systems

What about making distributions like linux's SLS Kit ?
Based on an already patched 386bsd patchkit level 0.2.3

What about making the installation of X11 more easier ?

The people I know say all: linux is smaller, you get the
whole distribution already patched as new version on floppy
disk, and so on.
The people I knoe don;t say: Oh there is more traffic in
the linux newsgroup, bla bla bla
The see advantages in already prepared and patched
binary distributions.

WE DON'T NEED A NEW NETBSD, WE NEED A BETTER AND MORE POPULAR
WAY TO DISTRIBUTE 386BSD 0.1 BASED ON THE NEWEST VERSION !!!

| I remember a few months back when there were a lot users asking
|how to install 386bsd and or how to make it work. But now there are very few
|perhaps because the installation process has become better? I doubt it..it is
|still very complex, but with NetBSD that has kind of changed..
|If one browses at the Linux group, you will see a lot of new user questions.

OK, but therefore 386bsd isn't bad at all or not so good as linux.
What strikes the people back is, that you have put all sources on
disk to be able to patch the beast.

WE NEED PEOPLE THAT PREPARE ALREADY PATCHED DISTRIBUTION FLOPPIES.
BASED ON THE PATCHKIT VERSIONS. Not all peoplae are so well equipped
like you developer ! My collegues want linux because it's smaller.
They can install a brand new linux without patching the source.
It saves time and disk space.

The Berkeley people found with NetBSD a way to make such
distribution floppies.

WHY NOT FOR 386BSD 0.1 BASED ON THE PATCHKIT.

The advantage is, that we do not need to split the - in yor eyes
shrinking - 386bsd community.

A better way would be to integrate NetBSD's installation floppies
and to create distribution floppies and tapes for a better
installation process.

I think I will stay with 386bsd. I'm not for splitting the bsd
community into parts.

Other opineons ?
