Try running XS3-0.3 available over at sunvis.rtpnc.epa.gov:/pub/386bsd/incoming

In a nutshell, the top 5 bits of the address field for mapping your video
ram are depended on how the vga/board manufacture straps them. Some
motherboards come with an S3 805 right on the motherboard.
If the top five bits are zero or if the motherboard with netbsd can
map properly the video ram address 0x7c..... (if this is the value that
Dell chose) then I am afraid that you will have too many xstones
on your screen :-)

Bug me this weekend, after I am done installing netbsd on my new
disk drive because I will have a simple test program to diagnose
your S3 805.

Cheers,
Amancio
