I've got an old Hostess 550 with 8 serial ports (each driven by
a 16450) and a manual for a newer card. The people at Comtrol
assured me that even though the manual was for a newer card, that
I would be able to configure my card.

Well, I configured it for irq 5 and ports 0x180 -> 0x1BF and
reconfiged and built my kernel. On boot, the card is recognized
as com2 -> com9:

pc0<color> at 0x60 irq 1 on isa
com0 at 0x3e8 irq 4 on isa
com1 fifo enabled at 0x2e8 irq 3 on isa
com2 fifo enabled at 0x180 irq 5 on isa
com3 (multiport) fifo enabled at 0x188 irq 5 on isa
com4 (multiport) fifo enabled at 0x190 irq 5 on isa
com5 (multiport) fifo enabled at 0x198 irq 5 on isa
com6 (multiport) fifo enabled at 0x1a0 irq 5 on isa
com7 (multiport) fifo enabled at 0x1a8 irq 5 on isa
com8 (multiport) fifo enabled at 0x1b0 irq 5 on isa
com9 (multiport) fifo enabled at 0x1b8 irq 5 on isa

But any attempts to open any of the ports results in:

  % echo 'hello' > /dev/cua02
  device not configured

I'm using CGD's latest com driver with COM_MULTIPORT and COM_BIDIR
options in my kernel.

I seem to remember that someone who has one of these said that he
had to make a small change to com.c to get his card working.

Can anyone offer any help?
