|1) To update any software for which a newer version currently exists.
| An example of this would be groff, which has gone from version 1.01
| to 1.08.

Good idea. Do you want to upgrade the sources in the /usr/src
directory tree directly so that the sources of groff-1.08 go into
/usr/src/usr.bin/groff ?

Or do you want to make up a new directory tree to preserve the
original sources of 386BSD 0.1 as being "released" by Wialliam Jolitz ?

I think let's discuss it first or am I going to much in detail ?

|3) To ensure that the entire 386BSD source tree can be compiled with
| either gcc1 (the currently supplied version) or gcc2, depending on the
| user's preference.

Do you have already the patches that are necessary, to compile
386bsd with gcc-2.3.3. I know about 2 different sources/methods.
One needs to compile gcc-2.3.3 with the pragma pack stuff enabled
(which I use with patchkit 0.2.2 with success) the other needs not
touching gcc's configuration. If you need those patches, let me know.

|7) Provide an updated release of 386BSD for new users, one that does
| not require the immediate application of potentially hundreds of
| patches.

This is welcome. And it's fine that you want to help us in
migrating to 386BSD 0.2.
