This is because the sendmail.cf on the distribution system is set up to use
tcp/ip over ethernet. Rule zero needs to be changed to direct things to your
uucp connection(s).

Anyone who has ever looked at /etc/sendmail.cf knows that it is write-only
as far as any human is concerned. I am not surprised to see many people
having dificulty with it.

I found the "ease" program (ask archie) helpfull as well as "SENDMAIL - An
Internetwork Mail Router" by Eric Allman. You can get this document by
anonymous ftp from ftp.uu.net file
systems/unix/bsd-sources/share/doc/smm/07.sendmailop/op.me.Z

With the combined help of these items I was able to get my home system
communicating by uucp. I can turn my sendmail.cf into a prototype and put
it up for anonymous ftp somewhere if someone can provide a home for it (I
can't afford to have my system on the Internet full time).

Good luck!
