I copied /pub/386bsd/incoming/XBSD8514-0.1.Z from sunvis.rtpnc.epa.gov, installed it in /usr/X386/bin and linked /usr/X386/bin/X to it. I uncompressed all the fonts in the 75dpi and misc font directories and ran mkfontdir misc Type1 Speedo 75dpi. The fontpath is set correctly in my Xconfig. When I start the server it aborts and leaves the console in an unuseable state (vertical lines, no text), although I can log in from a remote host. Is there any way I can recover the console without rebooting? The output from the X server is: XBSD8514 0.1 / X Windows System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 5000) ibm8514 Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed' XIO: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. The connection was probably broken by a server shutdown or KillClient. Cannot execute KBDFORCEASCII ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device Why can't it find the 'fixed' font? Am I missing something that doesn't come with the XFree86-1.2 distribution? -- Todd Pfaff \ Internet: todd@flex.eng.mcmaster.ca Dept. of Mechanical Engineering \ Voice: (416) 525-9140 x2902 McMaster University \ FAX: (416) 572-7944 Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA L8S 4L7 \
