I don't want to repeat efforts. My machine runs all the typical NFS server gunk (portmap, mountd, nfsd, etc) and exports only /usr. One thing which I though interesting was that the nfsd processes are ``owned'' by whoever is doing the remote access. This is rather nice, and I wish other vendors (Dec? Are you listening?) did this as well since it helps track down who is pounding on an NFS server machine. However, my roomate logged on and killed the nfs daemons -- as himself, not root. Now, since he made his machine useless at that point he'll not be doing that again soon, but it is interesting to note that this can be done. --Michael -- Michael Graff <explorer@iastate.edu> Speaking for myself, not Project Vincent Voice: (515)294-4994 for ISU or the ISUCC Iowa State Univ Comp Center Fax: (515)294-1717 Ames, IA 50011 -=*> PGP key on pgp-public-keys@pgp.iastate.edu <*=-
