I currently am running Linux 0.99.pl9 at work, and am interested in investigating putting a free Un*x on my home machine. I've noticed some problems in Linux, however -- primarily the following: * Bugs in networking code * Problems with dynamic page allocation * Problems with curses The are certainly others. But what I want to hear about, is what is "good", and what is "bad" about 386BSD and NetBSD. What problems are people encountering (known bugs!) How stable is the OS as a whole? Will I have to spend lots of my time applying patches? I've read the FAQs, but they don't give specific info. I want personal opinions, experiences, details, etc. Please don't bother answering with info or flames regarding GPL or licensing. I really don't care -- as long as I can get source. Also, please send e-mail rather than posting. This is probably a bad topic for posting, since I suspect it gets asked somewhat frequently -- so as to keep the bandwidth down please respond via e-mail. I will post summaries if people ask for them. I already have experience with Linux, and I am happy to share my experiences with that OS... ==================================================================== Garrett D'Amore | garrett@sba70.berkeley.edu Software Co-Ordinator | 68 Barrows Hall, UC Berkeley Haas Computing Services | Ph: 510-643-5923 Fax: 642-4769 ====================================================================
