Hello 386BSD hackers. I just want to extend a few warnings
to anyone thinking about using 386BSD with an IDE drive. I
installed the kernel a while ago and got it working--barely.
The problems I encountered were with the IDE drive. I went
through the relentless process of trying to properly configure
my hard drive but it would never read past a certain sector.

Well to make a long story short, I am in the process of putting
DOS back on my computer so that I can sell it. Basically it has
been a very rough time. I beleive that BSD wiped out my bad sector
tables or track relocation info or something because now I have
tons of bad spots on the disk. I have been using Calibrate to fix
the drive. Everytime I run it. Calibrate finds more bad sectors on
the disk.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that BSD *may* have real problems
with IDE drives especially those that pretend to be different. Norton
tells me that my drive doesn't really have the heads, sectors, and
cylinders that the drive claims. The IDE drive is mapping from one
set to another. I hope someone will look into this possibility because
I don't have the time or energy (or the resources!).

- Jason

PS: Did i mention that with BSD my hard drive made noises that
scared the hell out of me?
