I think you'll find that the second disk isn't even probed for unless you have
stated in your config that you have two disks. I can't remember the format but
it's something like...

controller	wdc0	at isa?.......etc........
disk		wd0	at wdc0 drive0
disk		wd1	at wdc0 drive1

Make sure you have the wd1 line in (check the format) and recompile your kernel.
