I've noticed some same behaviour, but worked around it by using another printer resolution. Obviously, the X driver is not affected, but some of the printer drivers. For me, the epson driver did it with the hi-resolution part. Since the lowres wasn't interesting for me, i didn't search for the bug. (It's some- thing like a 256-char translation table which is defined as a string, but obviously, strings are limited to < 256 chars...) btw., the next release (2.5...) is released, should be better. At least, their README states the font renderer has been improved, and if you really wanna print something, this would be a great favour!
