I use a little chat program which dials the modem, logs in and then calls slattach, ifconfig and route. I can post a copy of it all if you want. >3. What is a typical slattach command line? slattach /dev/com1 38400 (Is this a questionaire? :-)) >4. If I need extra tools from which FTP sites can I get them? Pass. I didn't need any >5. How do I stop a connection once I have finished with it? I just sort do a reverse of the above. i.e. route to delete the routing table, ifconfig to delete the sl0 entry and then kill slattach. DTR then drops and modem disconnects. > >Any help would be most welcome, if I get enough so I know what >I'm talking about, I'll post of an FAQ entry to Max. Oh BTW all the above is manual. I.e. you have to run the script to make it connect and then when you are done run another script (well the same one with different args) to turn it off. The nice thing about PPP is you just request the connection (i.e. try to send a packet), PPP will then dial up to send the packet. It then sits on line for a pre-determined amount of idle time and if no packets have been sent, it disconnects. > >R. >-- >Richard Thombs Lucas Powertrain Systems, >Systems Administrator Phoenix Way, >Mail: rst@liciren.li.co.uk Cirencester, GL7 1QG, >Phone: +44 285 657981 x233 England.
