Subject: [NetBSD] Rotten Ethernet performance [wd8003e + 1542C]

I have a 386dx system with 4M ram, an Adaptec 1542C card with a ST1480 hd, and
a wd8003e 8-bit card.

I get ftp speeds of a little over 1k/sec -- rotten speeds. The SCSI drive
screams along -- no problems there.

When I ping another machine across the room, I get > 6 second times... I
don't have an ethernet snooper I can drag home, but I suspect either the wd
card/driver is holding outgoing packets or holding incoming ones.

Also, someone mentioned that there was a problem with mixing 8- and 16-bit
cards in certain memory address ranges... I can't find the article now --
would that person or someone else please mail it to me? That should make it
into the FAQ as well, it's it's true. :)

In any case, thanks for your time.
