Well, Gopher was no problem, just a change in the Makefiles' INCLUDE syntax.
WAIS seems more difficult. After several changes to things like the order of
INCLUDEd files and the use of the cc '-traditional' switch to get the /lib
files to compile I now have a clean (ok, slightly dingey) compile with only
a few warnings.

But there seems to be a 'fatal' error; a NULL pointer is created on a first
run of WAIS and then a number of .lock files fail to clear on subsequent
runs. The search results are either 'not found' or a single file when
several should be returned.

When Gopher is compiled with WAIS searches result in a 'not found' condition
each time.

So I'd like to hear if anyone else has tried to port WAIS or Gopher with
WAIS to 386bsd -patchlevel 0.2.3, to be exact. (I did search 'minnie', but
the individual who asked this same question some time ago is no longer at
the e-mail address given... (Are you out there Graham Toal?))

Thanks in advance...
Philip Howard
