First of all, I apologise in advance if I'm asking stupid questions,
or if the questions I'm asking have been answered recently. Either
way, I would appreciate if someone would take the time to answer me.

I've recently joined demon.co.uk, and am running both DOS and 386BSD
on a PC. I've pulled down the DIS.EXE software for DOS, and am now
looking into getting my 386BSD side connected (as DOS is a pile of
s**t in my opinion).

Firstly, I assume that the standard way of connecting is via the SLIP
protocol. I also assume the following:

sliplogin is a SLIP server program - ie. something like the
program that demon runs on gate.demon.co.uk.

slattach conditions a given serial line so that it may become
a SLIP connection (creating a pseudo sl? device ???).

ifconfig attaches the sl? device, allowing it to become a
'route' to the rest of the _world_.

I'm fairly certain of these assumptions, as I have achieved the
following:

With kermit, I did the following:
                set line /dev/com1 (my modem)
                set sp 9600
                c
                        atdt3434848
                        gate login: awfulhak
                        Password: <password>
                        Protocol: slip
        - all standard stuff. I then escaped back to my machine,
        'push'ed a shell, ran
                slattach /dev/com1
ifconfig sl0 inet awfulhak gate ....
        and succesfully ping'd gate.

My questions/problems are as follows.

1) Is there an easier way to auto dial ? - there _MUST_ be !
2) How do I set up gate.demon.co.uk as being a nameserver ? - doing
the above I could use ftp, but couldn't open any connections
   besides gate.
