I am trying to install 386bsd on a 386sx with 100 Mb IDE fixed disk. I can succesfully boot from distribution floppy (after lowering cpu speed from 16 MHz to 8 MHz). I created /etc/disktab entry for the fixed disk (type MK234FC, 765 tracks, 8 heads, 33 sect/track) and wrote BSD disklabel without any bigger problems. The system complained about invalid bad sector file, so I initialized it with "bad144 wd0 0" (I know there are no bad sectors in disk). I can create root and /usr -filesystems, mount them and copy stuff from floppy to root filesystem. Problems begin when I try to boot from fixed disk. The system issues a "wd0: hard read error on sector 201927 ....". This message is repeated 5 times. I think that the boot is trying to read the bad sector table, since there are 5 copies of it and the printed sector numbers match to those sectors. After this the boot says that "bsd386" was not found and it is trying to boot "bsd386.alt" which again is not found. And so on and on ... I have no patches installed to my bsd386 ( I think so ...). Does anybody out there know what to do to get system running ? Any help would be appreciated. Ari Suutari, ari@hilti.lpr.carel.fi Lappeenranta FINLAND
