Well, I tried 386BSD. No go, the Tiny Bood Disk worked great, but after
the first bit of the installation, where you're supposed to be able to
boot from the hard disk, my machine goes into an eternal boot cycle.

At this point I get an error message containing the word RAM, but even on
my 3386-20 it goes by too fast to read. Nate tells me this is probably
because the kernel doesn't have an established space (i.e. hard drive) for
a core dump.

I tried NetBSD. This time, on trying to install, I get "wdc0: extra interrupt"
which Nate says may indicate a bug in my hard disk controller.

Understand, I trust Nate to know what he's talkink about. However, he only
hinted at a possible solution. (He has plenty to do, as we're all aware!!).

OK. System particulars:
Northgate 386-20 "page mode" system
8mb RAM
WD (oem'd) RLL controllerr
Maxtor 105mb hard drive
Seagate 65mb hard drive
Video7 1024i (Northgate 208e) SVGA card (512k)
'89 AMI BIOS with "F" keyboard controller
Digital Vision Computer Eyes RT (works with DOS)

Currently running OS/2 with both drives partioned HPFS

Now, to the actual question: can anyone tell me definitively that (a)
there is a way to install BSD*IX, or (b) I need a new hard drive/controller?

Naturally (a) is preferred, for $$$ reasons, but (b) seems to be my best
hope at this point.

Thanks!
