Oops! That's what happens when you depend on memory instead of documentation.
I must apologize. There was a period when the Radio Free Berkeley Project
was quite active, and John Gilmore coordinated a group of volunteers (and
a mailing list <sifters@hoptoad.com>, now silent) to do the work. Maybe John,
if he's listening, could say more about how far they got and how their efforts
interacted with CSRG and UUNET.
